Pierre-Auguste Renoir, known as Auguste Renoir, was born on 25 February 1841 in Limoges and died on 3 December 1919 at the Domaine des Collettes in Cagnes-sur-Mer. He was one of the most emblematic French painters of the 19th century, belonging to the Impressionist movement, whose work would later evolve towards a more realistic style. An avid painter of portraits, Pierre-Auguste Renoir transformed everyday subjects with a very particular treatment and work of light.
Produced in 1875 (71 x 92 cm), ‘La Yole’ is currently on show at the National Gallery in London.
